Biochemistry is the most fascinating subject as it deals with the chemical language of Life, be it human, animal, plant or microorganism. This is one of the most upcoming and highly demanded subject in the Indian as well as the foreign universities. The basic foundation in Biochemistry is a necessary pre-requisite for any kind of biotechnological, medical, paramedical and biological research activity. By considering above facts, Agricultural Biochemistry division was initiated in 1992 under the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry in Agricultural College, Mahanandi, Kurnool (Dt), to offer the courses in Plant Biochemistry, Food Science & Nutrition and Basic Biochemistry to the Undergraduate and Post Graduate students. The department has qualified staff and excellent teaching and research infrastructure to produce quality graduates who have the potential to contribute in food security, poverty alleviation and national prosperity.
The biochemistry laboratory has equipments like colorimeters, centrifuges, distillation units, electronic balances, pH meters, Micropipettes, electrophoresis units ect. In the biochemistry laboratory, students have access to every kind of equipment for the study of biomolecules and to work on potentially applied aspects in the fields of Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with major emphasis in the areas of abiotic stress tolerance, nutritional quality enhancement and assessment in cereals, millets and pulses. The department has published research papers in journals of National and International repute besides publishing books chapters. Objectives Currently, the major focus of the division is on the following two aspects: Biochemistry of stress responses. Nutritional sustainability and enhancement. .
