The Agricultural College, Mahanandi was established on 18 August 1991in the premises of Regional Agricultural Research Station, (Cotton Research Station) with Dr. A. Satyanarayana Reddy Associate Director of Research as the founder principal. Later, it was shifted to the present campus of M.C.Farm, Mahanandi on 9th Feburary 1996. Since then the college progressed in all aspects, acquired the required infrastructure facilities and completed 25 years in the service of agricultural education and the first batch students completed the course and took the degrees in 1995. As on now, twenty one batches have passed out since inception of the college and 720 students completed their graduation in agriculture, a four year degree course. Post-graduate programme was also initiated in 2011 in a few disciplines viz., Genetics and Plant Breeding, Entomology, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy and Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry. Presently, the P G programme is continuing in Agronomy, Genetics and Plant Breeding disciplines. So far, 40 students have completed the post graduation from this college.
Now, the college has acquired the much needed infrastructural facilities such as hostels for students, quarters to staff, farm machinery, cricket ground, separate gym for girls and boys, PG hostel blocks, RO Water systems in the hostels, additional class rooms, advanced laboratory facilities, ARIS lab, a library with more than 30,000 accessions and so on and blossoming year after year and providing quality agricultural education.
A placement cell and SC & ST coaching cell are also functioning for the benefit of students besides two NSS units to inculcate a sense of responsibility in the young minds towards the society in which they are going to live.
The college is proud of its alumni who occupied a prestigious positions in ICAR and University system, banking sector, agro industries, Department of Agriculture and other allied departments, civil services, farming etc.
